First-Year students are scheduled to move into their assigned residence hall during specific time periods by residence hall to help minimize traffic congestion. To get a better idea of what move-in day looks like, check out this video of the move-in experience for Molly!
Move in times:
8:30 am - 10:30 am: Aycock, Bell Tower, Brown, Gilbert-Addoms, Giles, & Pegram
10:30 am - Noon: Blackwell & Southgate
Noon - 2 pm: Alspaugh, Bassett, Epworth, Jarvis, Randolph, & Wilson

Parking Passes:
Go to your DukePass log-in to retrieve a parking pass for move-in day. This pass will provide your campus entrance location and also a map to assist you with navigating your way to campus.
Some move-in day tips:
- Most people try to arrive at the very start of their assigned move-in period however people who arrive an hour or 45 minutes into the time period will generally have less wait time to unload and encounter less traffic around campus.
- Avoid bringing a lot of "extras" into the room until you have actually seen the room and talked with your roommate. You may find that two chairs will work better in the room than that large futon you were thinking of bringing.
- Most students do not find it necessary to bring a computer printer. Duke OIT offers a free service called e-print which is a networked shared printer that is available 24/7. They even supply the paper!
- North Carolina weather in August is unpredictable. We have had beautiful opening days when the temperatures were in the mid-70s and we have had days when the temperatures have soared into the 90s. Please dress comfortably and bring plenty of water to keep yourself healthy!
Shipping your belongings to campus:
-
The university will not accept early shipments. It is advisable to ship your baggage to arrive on or after Wednesday, August 19, 2009 so that you will be here to receive it. Some local companies may not begin deliveries until the first day of classes. You will need to be certain to bring necessary belongings with you. There is usually a limit on the size of a package that shipping companies will deliver. We encourage you to investigate possible limits with your local agent.
-
Over summer, you will receive an East Campus Post Office Box assignment from the Duke Post Office. All mail delivered by the US Post Office should be addressed to this box number. Parcels shipped through other private vendors should be addressed directly to you at your assigned residence hall.Duke University is unable to provide storage for luggage and other belongings before your arrival.
