What will be in my room?
Mattress & bed frame
Mattresses are extra long (XL) twin. The actual dimensions are approximately 80 inches long x 36 inches wide x 7 inches deep. Bed frames vary by building- most of our beds have wooden headboards, footboards, and rails but some are all metal frames with legs that fold underneath the bed. In some rooms, bunk beds have been installed and may be split into two free-standing beds if the residents choose to configure the room that way. Dimensions of the bed frames vary based on the type of frame in your room. The wooden bedframes are not able to be bunked but can be raised and lowered to allow the dressers and bookshelves to fit beneath. Be sure to check out the loft policy!

Desk, Bookshelves, and Desk Chairs
Rooms are equipped with one desk and one desk chair per student. The style of the desk may vary between building but the desks are approximately 42 inches wide and 24 inches deep. Depending on the style of desk, the bookshelf may or may not be permanently attached to the desk. In some buildings, the desk is smaller and comes with a separate cabinet unit that can be used as an extension of the desk or can function as a night table. Desk chairs are two position chairs with cushioned bases and backs. The fabric color varies by building.

Chest of Drawers
Each student also has the use of a chest of drawers. Similar to the desks, the measurements of the chest of drawers varies based on the style of the furniture in that building. In some buildings, the dressers have 3 wide, deep drawers. In others, the dressers are taller and less wide but have 5 drawers.

Cable/Ethernet/Phone Outlet
Each room has an outlet including a phone jack, Ethernet port, and cable output jack per student. Students can activate cable through OIT. Landlines will be available for 2009-2010 to reach 911, only. Students should plan to bring a cell phone. The University has relationships with Verizon and AT&T to ensure strong signals in the residence halls. While we are in the process of wiring all residence halls on East Campus to broadcast a wireless signal, each student should plan to bring an ethernet cable with them to campus as a back-up.
Flooring
Some buildings on East contain carpeted bedrooms, some do not depending on the style and era of the building.
-
Alspaugh, Pegram, Brown, Bassett, Giles, Aycock, Wilson, and Jarvis maintain their original wooden floors (a few individual rooms in these buildings may be carpeted).
-
Generally speaking, Blackwell, Randolph, Bell Tower, Epworth, GA, and Southgate are carpeted.
If you intend to purchase a large rug for your room, it is advisable to wait until you get to campus to measure the actual floor space before making your purchase. Some of the rooms have interesting architecture including hallways, doorways, and kneewalls which may alter the shape of the floor space.
