Graduate Resident Application Process, 2010-2011 Academic Year

All applications must be submitted via our online process.  The application consists of several questions, including three essay questions.  Candidates are able to save their application at any point.  Candidates are encouraged to review their application before submitting their final application.

Essay Responses
We strongly recommend that you type your essay responses in a Word application so that you have the ability to save your responses in the event that the application times out. That way you can save your responses and then paste your responses into the web application.

Resume and Cover Letter
In order for an application to be complete, candidates should submit an electronic copy of their resume and a cover letter to Terry Lynch at tlynch@duke.edu prior to January 15, 2010.  Applications will not be considered complete until a resume and a cover letter is submitted.

References
Each candidate is required to submit the name of one individual who would be able to speak to your potential ability to be an GR.   Candidates should attempt to list a university member as their reference (ex: Resident Assistant, Student Affairs Staff Member, Professor).  You may ask a former advisor, coach, and/or teacher as well.  Please do not list your roommate or a relative for your reference.

Your reference will be sent an email with a link to fill out a reference form if you are advanced in the resume review process.

We encourage all candidates to contact their reference prior to submitting an application to ask if they are willing to fill out a form for you.

The deadline for all reference forms is Friday February 5.

Interview Process
A team of reviewers will review your application materials beginning Tuesday January 19.  From our candidate pool, we will screen materials and invite a small number of candidates to participate in a mini-interview day in March. Please note that if you are selected for an interview and cannot make it for the interview day, you will be extended the opportunity to participate in a phone interview.
