Summer Housing Information
Eligibility Requirements
You are eligible for Summer 2009 housing if:
- You are a student enrolled in Duke Summer Session for academic credit, or
- You are a Duke student working at least 20 hours per week on the University payroll during the summer.
Students employed by the University must submit a signed statement from their summer employer verifying employment as part of their application. The verification should give the name, telephone number and email address of the student's supervisor, the dates the student will begin and end employment, and the number of hours per week the student will be working. No assignment will be made until the verification letter is received.
If a student's eligibility changes, the student must notify Housing Accommodations and vacate university housing within 48 hours of the change in eligibility.
Assignment Policies and Practices
Students enrolled in Summer Session are assigned to a one-bedroom apartment with a roommate in the Anderson/Yearby area unless assignment to their Spring 2009 or Fall 2009 apartment is requested and approved. If no one-bedroom spaces are available in the Anderson/Yearby area, students will be assigned to available one-bedroom space in other areas of Central Campus. For eligible students not enrolled in Summer Session, a limited number of spaces in two- and three-bedroom apartments may be available. Most students will be assigned to one-bedroom apartments with a roommate or two-bedroom suites with a roommate. All apartments, with the exception of three-bedroom apartments, are assigned two occupants. Three-bedroom apartments are assigned four undergraduate occupants. Empty, unassigned spaces in apartments are filled first. All students will be assigned roommates.
If a license for an assignment has not been signed by 5pm on the requested move in day, the assignment will be cancelled. If your plans change after you apply and you no longer need housing, please notify the housing office as soon as possible.
Please note that all applicants who are eligible for summer housing are not eligible for every type of housing offered.
