Sophomores on Central
This year we are introducing a pilot program that will allow sophomores to live on Central Campus. Some key elements of this program:
- This is an "opt-in" community. All sophomores are still guaranteed a space on West Campus, if that is their preference.
- Specific apartments have been set aside for sophomores. The allotted apartments will house up to fifty-six rising sophomores. The final set of apartments will be based on student demand, but will not exceed the allotted beds.
- Sophomores must apply for this space in roommate pairs (as is also the case with other aspects of the Room Picks process).
- Roommate pairs must both be sophomores - sophomores cannot room with juniors and seniors on Central Campus.
- Residents who later prefer to live on West Campus will be able to request reassignment over the summer or during the academic year. Reassignments will be made on a space-available basis.
How do I apply for Sophomores on Central?
- You will indicate your interest on the online Room Picks application.
- If you check that you want Sophomores on Central on the application, you will be prompted to enter your Unique ID as confirmation that you are committed to living in this area. You will be required to select an apartment if there is a space available when your lottery number comes up.
- You must request a specific roommate on your application.
- Blocks may request Sophomores on Central. We recommend that blocks discuss their interest in this housing option prior to the application windows so that you are all prepared to fill out your applications with the same preferences.
How will I know if I can select an apartment on Central?
- Once applications are submitted, RLHS will complete the housing lottery. Students who are selected (based on the lottery) for Sophomores on Central will be contacted and given instructions for their room selection session. Sophomores on Central Room Picks are scheduled for the evening of March 19, 2009.
- Students who are not selected initially will be informed of their placement on the waiting list for this area and will participate in general Room Picks (or one of the other new group options - see below).
What if I am interested in more than one of the new housing options?
- Students may indicate interest in none, one, two, or all of the new housing options.
- The processes will be run in the following order:
- Sophomores on Central
- Substance Free
- Block Free Zone/East Meets West
- General room selection
- Students will be invited to participate in these groups in this order. For example, a sophomore interested in Central and in East Meets West may have a good lottery number and be invited to Sophomores on Central picks. In this case, they would not have the chance to pick at East Meets West. If they have a poor lottery number, they may not make it into the Sophomores on Central community, but may then have a chance to select at East Meets West.
- If your first choice is one of the later processes, then your second choice cannot be one of the earlier processes. We know this might be confusing - come to an info session if you have questions!
