Selective Living Groups
If you are planning to live in a selective living group (SLG) section, you will not participate in general Room Picks. Instead, you will be placed in a bedspace within your SLG's section in accordance with your individual group guidelines.
SLG housing liaisons will meet with an RLHS representative during the second week of February. At this time they will provide finalized membership lists that indicate which members will be living in-section, and which will be out. Remember, members have a two-year in-section agreement, so if you are a sophomore or junior (or the president) in a group, you should probably be planning to live in-section. In a few situations, group membership is greater than the section allotment - in these cases, those members closest to fulfilling their in-section agreements may be "overflow." Overflow members will participate in general Room Picks.
Once the section is set, the group will have some time to review the finalized section and complete their room selection processes. RLHS will provide instructions to the liaisons about communicating the results of this process back to RLHS. SLG room selection must be complete and communicated back to RLHS no later than February 26th.
We recommend all new and returning members of SLG's review the SLG expectations.
Friends of the House (FOH) are permitted only in instances where a group falls short of membership goals and has a small number of vacancies in-section. It is preferable that the group fill these vacancies with FOH, rather than a random student having to select that room during Room Picks.
If a group has a member who is thinking about going abroad, RLHS recommends (but does not mandate) that the group remove the student from their room selection process. It is much more likely the student will go abroad, in which case the group will have to find someone to fill the space. Historically, many groups struggle to fill spaces that open up after Room Picks is over. Empty beds have a negative effect on RGAC scores.
