Welcome to the Department of Residence Life and Housing Services (RLHS)!
Living on campus has long been considered an essential part of the Duke Experience. It is for this reason that the Trustees require all undergraduates to live on campus for their first three years. We consider this an opportunity to build the kinds of relationships that will help students connect with each other and their university, and sustain an enduring sense of belonging. Our overarching goals include providing experiences and facilities that promote positive living communities and help elevate the intellectual climate of campus beyond the classroom.
RLHS provides residentially based experiences that develop students and colleagues who are competent and confident participants in the communities in which they live and work.
Shaping great communities is a responsibility we share with students. We provide many meaningful opportunities for shared governance and invite students to get involved with their respective house or quad council, as well as East Campus, Central Campus, and West Campus Councils respectively. It’s a great way to make a difference in the experience shared by students!
